In late May, the USAID Municipal Energy Reform Project in Ukraine (USAID Project) held a two-day conference called «From Waste to Energy» in Ivano-Frankivsk. More than
80 representatives of city councils, NGOs and international organizations, utility companies and environmental associations participated. They focused on solid waste management, using landfill gas at the landfills and the specifics of solid waste (SW) incineration.
In a speech to the participants, the Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Roman Martsinkiv, said that due to Project assistance, the city already has a project on a system for waste sorting and recycling the solid fuels and biogas produced from waste. Its implementation will annually produce an additional 5,000 MWh of energy and thus ensure the substitution of 1.6 mln. m3 of natural gas.
