The USAID Municipal Energy Reform Project (USAID Project) continues a series of its trainings “Media on Energy Efficiency: Competently, Objectively, Motivatingly”. This time, the Project experts met on November 8 and 9 in Lviv with the journalists from Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi oblasts. For two days, they were studying together the fundamentals of energy efficiency, principles of energy saving, types of alternative energy sources, and potential of their use in Ukraine, issues of condominium establishment and successful management of the condominiums, etc.
At the end of the first training day, the journalists visited Enzym Company where, together with Technical Director Mykola Shuster, they discussed use of the energy saving technologies and alternative fuels in industrial scope. Mr. Shuster reported that there are purification facilities established and successfully functioning in their company. Due to use of the modern equipment and modern technologies, the company extracts biogas for own needs at these facilities. Further, this alternative fuel is used in the boiler house for heat production. This way, the company saves every year up to 7,000 m3 of natural gas.
“We decided to tell the training participants about biogas as one of alternative fuels. Currently, it is not very popular among the Ukrainians, but it has a huge potential. We hope that the journalists will be able through their articles, radio and TV programs to attract attention of the Ukrainians to possible use of biogas as alternative to imported gas,” – indicated Vira Illiash, Director of Communications and Government Relations of the USAID Project, explaining objective of the site visit and expected results from it.
The third training will start next week, and its participants will be the journalists from Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad.
