USAID Project Support in SEAP Development in Kryvyi Rih
To achieve the goals identified by the Covenant of Mayors, the city has developed the Kryvyi Rih Sustainable Energy Action Plan through 2020 (SEAP). The European Commission has adopted it with some comments and proposals on its improvement. The USAID Project specialists processed these comments and developed an updated version of SEAP through 2025. Currently, the document is in the process of processing and approval.
The basis for development of the comprehensive energy efficiency measures included in the SEAP were the results of conducted energy audits in major sectors of the municipal infrastructure. The study was conducted by leading Ukrainian experts and specialists from the City Executive Committee and communal utilities and resulted in a list of investment project proposals. Information on them was compiled in a separate annex – the Catalog of Investment Projects (hereinafter – the Catalog). It presents detailed information on the objective and feasibility of every project proposal. It also presents substantiations and calculations, identifies efficiency indicators, and lists the expected results from the implementation of the projects.
Implementing the SEAP in full will reduce CO2 emissions through 2020 by 3,560,600 t/year or 20% of the baseline year (2010); reduce energy resources consumption by 160,495,000 m3 of natural gas, and over 89 MWh of electricity a year.
