Some of the heat in our homes which is so expensive today is lost through the wall behind the heating radiators. Actually, the radiators heat the bricks or concrete of the outer wall, not just the air in the room. When a radiator is installed in a niche – these losses grow by 3-4%.

The installation of heat reflecting screens behind the radiators can reduce heat losses significantly. These screens insulate part of the wall located behind the heating unit. Materials with a low K value and one-side foiling are used for this. This can be, for example, alufom (produced in Ukraine), which costs UAH 20-40 per m2 depending on thickness.

It is easy to install it – place the foiled insulator carefully between the radiator and the wall, and straighten it. Attach the ends with adhesive tape or glue.

Remember that the screen must be 10-15 cm bigger than the radiator on each side. Also, do not forget about the periodic cleaning of the screen from dust: dust-laden foil loses its heat reflecting properties.

The installation of the heat reflector can reduce heat losses behind the radiator by 2.5%.

Heat reflecting material is sold everywhere: in the building supply supermarkets, in small hardware stores, in markets, and over the Internet.
